Why come to Islington?

Islington Early Childhood Centre is a small, not-for-profit, community-based centre offering high-quality education for tamariki aged 2–6 years.
We are open Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm, including during school term breaks, supporting busy families throughout the year.
Located in the heart of North East Valley, Dunedin, we have proudly served our community for over 50 years.
With small session sizes of up to 20 children, each tamaiti is supported to thrive in a nurturing and responsive environment. Our welcoming atmosphere fosters a strong sense of belonging for both tamariki and whānau, and our doors are always open to our Islington community.
We value and encourage community engagement, recognising its importance in enriching children’s learning and strengthening centre participation.
Our tamariki are treasured like pounamu — each child unique, respected, and nurtured as a confident, capable learner.
In a warm, supportive environment, kaiako and tamariki build strong relationships grounded in whanaungatanga, fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.
Guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we honour culture, identity, and diversity, empowering tamariki to grow in mana, develop meaningful connections, and become kaitiaki of Papatūānuku — caring for themselves, others, and the world around them.
